Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Oaktree Capital Management.
Administrative Assistant
It was a thorough interview process. There were three stages, with at least ten people involved in total. Each part was 30 minutes long, plus a case study. Overall, it was a very positive experience. Oaktree is a great firm. I would recommend it.
- Can you describe a challenging situation you encountered and how you resolved it?
Administrative Assistant
It took about four weeks to get to the interview. The interview itself was super organized and happened over a bunch of rounds all in one day. Each round had one or two people from the company, some more senior than others. It felt like everyone had to agree I was a good fit for an offer. It was pretty stressful! The questions were typical, but they felt very direct and kind of cold, not really warm or conversational. It was a Q&A the whole time. Everyone was nice, but I didn't see my potential manager smile at all. I got nervous a few times and found myself giving vague answers just to please them. I was most relaxed with the newer, more junior people; they seemed more genuinely interested. Usually, I can tell how people are reacting, but I left feeling unsure. Still, it was a good experience because I learned it's better to be yourself and take a chance than to try and fit a mold.
- Can you tell me what you know about our company?
Executive Assistant
The recruiter was rude and the interview was short. She didn't ask relevant questions. I answered them all, but she seemed distracted and careless, not representing her firm well. No thanks.
- Tell me about a challenge you faced in your previous role.
