Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Oaktree Capital Management.
Associate
After a recruiter call, I was invited for a 1.5-day onsite interview loop. This involved speaking with about 10 people. About 60% of the interviews were video calls, which was a new experience for me. They provided lunch on both days. The process concluded with a case study analyzing an investment team's decision-making and use of a proprietary tool, followed by a short call with a client services representative to discuss the client service process.
- Standard questions about my background.
- Questions about how I handle different situations.
Associate
The interview process involved approximately 7 rounds. There was a modeling case study. Questions focused on my previous deal experience and my financial modeling skills. The interviewers were very pleasant.
- Can you elaborate on your previous deal experience?
- What are your thoughts on financial modeling?
Associate
The interview started with a phone call and then there was a 5 person super day with the senior team first. The whole process was super focused on deals, and every interview was about a transaction overview. There were standard behavioral questions, but they mostly cared about your most recent job experience.
- Can you describe one of the transactions listed on your resume?
- Tell me about a transaction you were involved in.
- Walk me through a deal from your experience.
