First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Oakland University.
Director
The interview process wasn't very organized and felt unprofessional, like they were just going through the motions, although the people themselves were nice. The lead interviewer seemed unaware that I have two degrees from OU. Additionally, one of the interview panel members appeared to be dozing off at times.
- Describe your leadership and management style when it comes to managing staff.
Admissions Coordinator
So, there was just this one interview, it was 90 minutes long total. It was split into two parts. First part was with the main Admissions team, about 45 mins. Then the second part was with higher-up leadership, also about 45 mins. That was it, no other interviews or anything, just the one go. No recruiter call beforehand or anything like that.
- Tell me about your views on teamwork.
- Can you give an example of a big project or event you ran?
- Describe how you handled the step-by-step breakdown of that project.
Career Consultant
I had a 1 hour and 15 minute interview with the operations manager and senior director. We kicked things off with "tell me about yourself" and "why do you want this position." A lot of questions came up about my past experience advising students, my strengths/weaknesses, and my communication and teamwork abilities. I was glad I did a mock interview beforehand because it was really thorough.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- What motivates your interest in this role?
- What would you say are your biggest strengths and weaknesses?
Economics Tutor
basically the hiring process is mostly consistent of the tutor scoring high grades in the subject they wish to teach.I had a 3.0 GPA but had earned a 4.0 in managerial economics which seemed to be a difficult class that many business majors struggled with. due to a high score in that class and there being an opening I was pretty much instantly hired and the next step was filling out paper work for employment.
- What is your availability to start and when can you begin?
