Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Oak Plains Academy.
Mental Health Technician
The interview process was good and thorough. The background check, which goes through DCS, should cover everything but it takes a while. There's also very specific background paperwork to complete, plus a 9-panel drug test. The HR contact was approachable and flexible.
- Have you had any prior experience working with children?
Mental Health Associate
I applied online and got a call the very next day to set up an interview, which was pretty fast. The interview itself seemed okay, like they were trying to see if I was really committed. I was told to wait to talk to the scheduling manager, but she had already left for the day. They said she'd call me the next day, but after a few days of waiting, I called them. They told me she'd call me back that afternoon. It's been another week and I still haven't heard anything.
- What motivates you to work in this particular field?
Therapist
The interview was pretty chill and felt more like a conversation. I spoke with the clinical director and another therapist. About two weeks later, I got a conditional job offer, pending a drug screen and background check. When I went to finish the HR paperwork, I disclosed some charges that would appear on my background check. I was told it would be okay as long as they weren't related to child abuse/neglect or violent crimes. I was supposed to start on a Monday, but the Friday before, they rescinded the offer because of those charges, even though I had already told them about them.
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
