First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities.
Direct Support Associate
It was a pretty straightforward process, took just a few hours. Make sure you have all your documents ready. It's faster than you'd think. There are a few different interview stages, so it might take a bit before you're onboard.
- Do you possess a driver's license?
Chief PT
It was a panel interview with a bunch of stakeholders, some in person and some on a call. They had a list of questions they asked and wrote down the answers. I got to ask questions too. The panel was really into the conversation.
- How would you handle implementing a policy that staff disagrees with?
Direct Support Assistant
I saw an ad online and they reached out about taking a civil service exam. At the exam, they told me they were understaffed so things might move fast. I aced the exam, then had a psych test with some odd questions. After that, I had a face-to-face interview about my work history. Two weeks later, I got a letter for a health exam which was really thorough - vision, hearing, EKG, blood work, vitals, and a medical history review. Two weeks after that, there was a fitness test. I was told I was eligible for hire and would be contacted when a spot opened. A month later, I was offered a part-time role (20 hrs/week) which didn't work with my current job, so I declined but said I'd be interested in a full-time position.
- Can you describe your personality traits that are relevant to this job?
Administrative Assistant
The interview was short and to the point. They asked me what I knew about the company. Then they asked about my future goals and aspirations. I also discussed my previous work experience and the reasons for leaving my last job. Finally, they asked me what salary I was looking for.
- What is your understanding of our company?
- Tell me about your future goals and aspirations.
- Can you share background on your previous roles and why you transitioned to seeking a new position?
