Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NYS Department of Labor.
Labor Services Representative Trainee
The interview was about 30 minutes and the questions weren't too hard. The interviewers made it a comfortable experience. I'd suggest doing your homework on the job before you apply and be ready to discuss yourself and how your past work experiences make you a good fit for this role.
- Tell me about a time you had to resolve a client or customer issue or complaint and what steps you took.
Senior Unemployment Security Clerk
I got contacted through phone and email. Since the job was provisional, the interview was pretty straightforward. Good thing there was a thorough training program that made me feel ready to start.
- What is your typing speed in words per minute?
Labor Service Representative
The interview process was pretty chill and easy, and they conducted it in both Spanish and English. Two supervisors interviewed me, one speaking Spanish and the other English. They were nice and asked straightforward questions.
- Can you describe a typical day in your life?
- Could you introduce yourself?
- What makes you want to work here?
Employment Services Representative
I talked to one person live and two others were just voices from a box. They asked me questions from a list they were reading. I couldn't get a feel for the voices, and I bet they couldn't for me either. The whole thing took about 30 minutes.
- Tell me about your knowledge of our organization.
- How would you describe your computer skills?
