First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NYGC.
Information Security Manager
It's a standard process, they get back to you fast. Usually, you'll talk to at least one subject matter expert, and then two other people who work closely with the role. Interviews can be virtual or in-person, whatever works best for you.
- Can you explain secure networking concepts?
Systems Engineer
I applied online. I had a screening with HR that lasted about thirty minutes. They asked me to go through every role I had and explain why I left each company. I didn't get to talk about my skills or how they fit the job. We just went through the list and at the end, they basically said I didn't have the basic qualifications. I got an automated rejection email a few weeks later. I was really excited about the company's mission, but I was disappointed by how negative the recruitment process felt.
- Can you tell me about your past employment history and why you departed from each role listed on your resume?
Light Microscopy Specialist
I was reached out by HR to set up an initial chat with someone from the scientific team. It was about 15 minutes long and done over Zoom. The interviewer was a senior scientist, though not the team lead. They were nice and professional, and gave detailed answers about NYGC when I asked.
- Could you tell me about yourself?
- Can you tell me more about [ specific skill] ?
Bioinformatics Scientist
First I got an email and had a phone call interview. He introduced himself briefly and asked me some questions about my project. He asked for specific details of the pipeline and the reason for using that tool. He also mentioned that they will test me for handling a problem.
- Can you introduce a past project?
- Can you introduce your ability of using tools in bioinformatics?
