First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Nuvalence.
Senior Software Engineer
Got a call from a Nuvalence recruiter for a 30 minute phone screen. Right after that, another recruiter set up a 3 hour interview. One round involved making and demoing an app I built, which took about 4.5 hours plus app creation time within a day. My first interviewer was nice, and the technical questions were fair. The second interview was supposed to be a 1-hour behavioral one, but the interviewer didn't show up due to scheduling software issues, which the recruiter apologized for. I decided to try again, and the second attempt at the second interview went well with a program manager, including behavioral questions. The third technical interview felt off; one interviewer was quiet, the other was unpleasant and seemed to have something to prove. I had only 8 minutes to diagram a system using a tool I wasn't familiar with. The fourth technical interview also had two interviewers. One was quiet, and the other I demoed my app to, but they seemed unfamiliar with the framework, even though the job was for that framework. I was rejected a few days later and asked for feedback, but got little in return. Shortly after, a different recruiter from Nuvalence contacted me, seemingly unaware they had already interviewed me, which felt unprofessional. This recruiter asked if I'd seen their good Glassdoor reviews, prompting me to leave my own feedback. You might want to be cautious.
- Can you create an application from scratch using the technologies relevant to this role within a couple days and be ready to present it?
- What's a race condition?
- How would you design an API?
Software Engineer
The hiring process had 3 parts. First, an HR chat to get to know you. Second, a 45-minute phone screen with an engineer to discuss your experience and a coding/system design question. Third, a 3-hour onsite with 3 one-hour rounds. They send a coding challenge beforehand with instructions. You'll meet 3 people. The first two onsite rounds are heavy on technical questions related to your skills and resume, covering technical concepts, coding, and system design, plus a discussion on a coding challenge. The third hour is entirely behavioral, but very in-depth. Hope this helps as we're still hiring!
- What is your favorite feature in Java, and why? What Java feature would you replace?
- How does Java compare to other programming languages?
- Tell me about your past experience and a coding/system design question.
Software Developer
I was contacted by the recruiter. The interview process had 3 rounds. 1st: screening, 2nd: take-home exercise, and 3rd: three rounds of 1 hour each. The screening and take-home exercise were good and I got an offer for the final round of an interview which was the combination of three rounds 1 hour each. The first round consisted of a review of the take-home exercise and technical questions, the second round consisted of soft skills and customer-experience questions and the third round was totally based on REST API design. My overall experience was so good during the entire interview process and I performed very well in all rounds but I did not get an offer from the company. When I asked them to give me feedback regarding my application and they simply refused to give so and told me that for liability reasons they cannot give me any feedback. I again asked to consider me again but they simply rejected me and told me that they are not moving forward with my application. I am so disappointed by this rude behavior and did not understand which policy is restricted them to give feedback.
- A lot of technical questions based on your resume.
- take-home exam: Rectangle features, check for the adjacency, containment, and intersection of the rectangle sides and return the intersection points.
- What is rest API?
