Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NSW Government.
Policy Officer
It was two online interviews. I think I did okay answering their questions, I felt pretty good about it. But it didn't work out in the end.
- When faced with a challenge, what's your approach to handling it?
Policy Officer
The interview was recorded on MSTeams, and I just had to answer questions. There wasn't a panel, and it was only about 5 minutes long, which felt pretty strange. I'm not sure if it's a good approach; it might be convenient for the interviewers, but it's not ideal for the candidate who doesn't get any feedback or a chance to ask questions.
- Can you discuss your past work experience within government roles?
Policy Officer
You'll do an online personality test and answer some questions. They want to know more about you, why you think you'd be good for the job, and if you know about the machinery of government.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- What makes you want to join our organization?
