It started with a written legal question that I then had to verbally present. This part depends on the team you're joining. After that, there were like 5 questions about my focus capabilities, and I had to use the STAR method. There were 3 people interviewing me in total.

Behavioral Presentation

I've done a few interviews for different clerical/admin jobs in DOE and been part of several panels, though never the one in charge. Usually, there's a work task that the hiring manager hasn't really thought through and likely wouldn't know how to do themselves. Based on the job level, you'll get about 4 to 8 questions focused on behavioral indicators, directly tied to the "capability framework" mentioned in the job description. Expect questions about communication, prioritizing, teamwork, and integrity. You really need to use the "S.T.A.R" method with examples. Try to be brief with your answers, and it's fine to pause and think before you start.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Can you share an instance where you juggled competing priorities and how you ensured timely completion of all tasks?
  • Describe a project where you had to communicate with various stakeholders.
  • Tell us about a challenging customer experience you encountered and how you managed to resolve it.
