They called me for a screening and asked basic questions, but then dove into detailed science concepts from high school. It would've been better if they'd warned me to prepare for that instead of surprising me. It wasn't professional to say it was a quick call and then have a long one. The pay was also low with minimal compensation. I didn't like how they focused on upselling without much regard for client retention. I chose another company that pays double, has better commission, prioritizes client retention over upselling, and always provided an agenda before interviews.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The employer really wanted to emphasize the 'natural gift' of a sales profile and downplay the technical qualifications needed to actually sell NGS products to R&D clients, probably to offer a lower paycheck for the role. This position actually needs someone with a PhD in Life Sciences and hands-on experience in NGS technologies, which I have. The hiring manager (in Germany) seemed annoyed by Novogene Europe's poor service awareness compared to competitors when dealing with Nordic R&D clients. He argued for better service even with a higher price tag, which for public-funded R&D clients is basically a prohibitive price. In the end, Novogene just ghosted me after the interview.

Logistically it was a mess, I had to chase HR for updates at every step. The company culture seems really toxic and after the final interview, I was ghosted for a month. The hiring manager seemed nice and cared about the team, though.
