First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Notre Dame de Namur.
Communications Director
Overall, it was a strange experience. The first phone screen turned out to be a 30-minute panel interview with six members of the comms team and others. I wasn't told about the interview process beforehand, but I was invited to a second-round interview. Before scheduling the second interview, I was contacted by someone who would be my colleague, not my manager or HR, for a salary discussion. Red flags! The benefits were competitive, but the salary was very low and not at all in line with similar roles in academia or non-profits. I declined the offer to proceed to the second round.
- Can you share your experience with crisis communications?
Public Safety Officer
I applied for the job through a colleague and got contacted for a phone interview within a month. After that, I had an interview with a committee. This committee included people from student life, the director of public safety, another staff member, and a student representative. The interview lasted about 40 minutes and was mostly focused on behavior and scenario-based questions. Nothing too complicated.
- Could you tell me what your greatest strength is?
Assistant Professor
The interview process was very poorly orchestrated, and it felt like the blind were leading the blind in all aspects of the interview, hiring, and onboarding. The HR management and chairs could benefit from training on how to support new hires, as the presentation of the organization is important to new employees.
- What makes you enjoy teaching?
Instructional Design Librarian
It was a phone interview with a panel of 5 interviewers. One person moderated the session and described the position and interview process. The panel then introduced themselves and asked questions. I had the chance to ask my own questions at the end.
- Why were you interested in this role and the university?
