Had a general call where we discussed my background and I felt I did well. However, the interviewer's skills were not up to par, which was quite disappointing. I previously applied for a Lead Product Designer role in 2022, went through all the stages, and was rejected. That rejection felt justified. They always praise my expertise, skills, and talents, yet I keep getting rejected. I've come to believe that Nosto, being a Finnish company, might be biased against hiring foreigners. You can look into data on how foreigners are treated in Nordic Europe yourself. My advice - think carefully before considering a job with a Finnish company in Finland.

I talked to HR, the GM of North America, the Head of Onboarding, the Director of Customer Success, and the Head of Client Services. I also did a take-home technical assessment that checked my customer experience and technical skills. The team was great to talk to, they were open about their jobs and seemed to really like what they do. The interviewers told me a lot about the company culture and what the job is like day-to-day. But, there were big delays, and I had to chase them multiple times to keep things moving. When I got the offer, the salary was less than we talked about. I tried to negotiate, but they said no. Also, an exception for me to work remotely for the first 10 months, because of my lease, was taken away during the salary talk, meaning I would have had to move to NYC before starting. When I asked about office days, they said there were none required. I offered to go to the office 1-2 times a week while still remote, but they said no. The reason for taking away the remote work exception was that the CEO didn't like me negotiating the salary.

We start with a quick chat to make sure you're a good fit. Then, there's a longer interview with the hiring manager where we dive into your past experiences and see if you're right for the job. After that, you'll get a case study to work on and present to some of the team members. This is also where we check for cultural fit – you'll come into the office to see if you vibe with everyone. Finally, it's an offer or no offer.

So the first interview was with the hiring manager and it was a lot of questions about my past jobs and how I dealt with tough customers. I barely got to ask anything. Then, I had a second interview with the hiring manager and two other people where we did a mock call. They asked tons of questions about my past quotas and how I crushed them. It really felt like an interrogation. After the mock call, I got some feedback, including a comment about my accent. The interviewers seemed really arrogant and it felt like it was all about them. I only got to ask one question at the end. It wasn't a place I'd want to work.
