This interview was a quick 16 minutes, which I found concerning as interviews are usually longer. Although they said no STEM experience was necessary, it seemed like they were looking for it. I had to acknowledge that I might not be the best fit. The interviewer, Liza, spent time scrutinizing my resume, focusing on 3-12 year experience even though I highlighted my role as a 6-12 teacher with a passion for Math. Instead of ending the interview, she suggested I might be better suited for the Assistant Teacher role, which pays minimum wage. She also seemed to dislike my response and implied that candidates are expected to learn and align with the company's values and mission.

I got an email asking for a 15-minute screener call with the CEO. He was super rushed, talking really fast and just going through questions. He seemed nice though and kept apologizing for the speed, but there were major red flags regarding the work hours. I was told the schedule is 7-10am, then a break, and then 1-6pm. He also mentioned being 'on call' for emergencies late at night. I suspect that 3-hour break isn't really free time and you'd still need to be available. He brought up working some weekends, even a Sunday, and emphasized the 'unconventional' hours and constant emergency availability. No mention of extra pay for this. He asked about my salary expectations, and even with my experience, my expectations were too high for what they could offer. When I brought up the long days and on-call duties, he reiterated that my expectations were too high. They were offering $70k-80k/year, which is way too low for the responsibilities described and the constant availability expected. I don't think I'm moving forward since I stood my ground on salary, but I'll decline if they ask for a second round.

Presentation

I went through an initial screening call and then passed the next round. They then asked for my availability for a third round, which was a presentation using some data they had sent me beforehand. After I had started the presentation, they informed me days later that they had already offered the job to someone else, and that person had no previous CSM experience. It was really poor form to have me start a presentation and then cancel the next stage.

They were very professional and the process was straightforward. However it did not seem like there was a lot of room for creativity or upward mobility, they really just want people to create cookie cutter generic content.
