So first you send the application in online, then HR does a phone screen where they ask about your preferred availability and salary expectations. After that, there's an in-person interview with the hiring manager and the team educator, and you get a tour of the floor or unit. Finally, they extend an offer and call you to go over the details.

The HR screen was really rude. She asked my current salary, which I declined to share, and didn't provide a salary range. She said it was hard to answer since she didn't know my background or skill level, which was odd since she had my resume and we'd just discussed my experience. I have an MBA, RHIA, and two coding credentials. She interrupted me when I asked about a salary range, treating me poorly. I've been flown out for interviews and interviewed locally many times with various companies and never had such a bad experience. I'm not sure if they're struggling financially, but they won't attract good talent without knowing what they're willing to pay. Providing a range saves everyone time. She wanted me to state my salary expectations first, which is tough without knowing the job requirements or benefits. I'd be cautious if you get an interview with them. Her name was Barbara.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

I applied online in late October. Someone from NCH called me in early December to ask me why I wanted to work there. Then, I had an in-person interview the next Thursday. They showed me around the unit. After that, I talked with the Nurse Educator, a nurse from the unit, and the charge nurse. The interview was about 30 minutes long. They said they'd make a quick decision and let me know the following week. I got the job offer that following Tuesday!

I had been applying to work for this hospital for almost two years. They always post a lot of jobs, but I think they're mostly phantom posts because there's no way the company can actually budget for as many positions as they list. When I finally got an opportunity to be considered by someone from their HR, I was told that while I'm qualified, my salary expectations were too high and that was the reason I wasn't getting an actual interview. Interestingly, when I removed those expectations and applied for a similar job, I never heard from HR again. I've heard from others that there are very few employees of color at this company and that such exclusion is not by mistake. I now think it's true and will apply to equal opportunity employers from now on.
