First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Northwest Career College.
Administrative Liaison
We start with a group interview, and if you do well, we move to a one-on-one interview. Then there's an administrative working interview, followed by a final interview with an executive team member.
- Why are you the most suitable candidate for this role?
Admissions Representative
I had an elementary level interview. First, I filled out a questionnaire and then went into a group interview where I discussed my answers. They said we'd hear back the following Friday, but I got an email saying they'd chosen another candidate. Nine days later, I received a voicemail saying they wanted me back for a second interview due to a mistake. The second interview was a working interview where I had to research the school, call a prospective student, leave a voicemail, and email admissions an update. The phone number for the voicemail didn't work. Then, I met with upper management who discussed the school's mission but didn't ask questions, so I had to interject. It felt like a first-day meeting rather than an interview. Lastly, I met my potential direct boss who showed me databases and job duties rather than interviewing me. I felt she dismissed my experience. I asked about employee retention, and she said people stayed, but my research showed otherwise, with high turnover in admissions due to poor management. They said I'd hear back Monday, which was a holiday, and I eventually got the same 'chose another candidate' email after I followed up. It was a waste of time, but I'm glad I didn't get the job due to the bad management.
- What is it that you bring to the table?
Receptionist
The hiring process was kind of a mess. After you check in, which is fine, you have to fill out some questions. Even though the check-in is nice, they don't really make you feel welcome. They had scheduled people and walk-ins, and they let the walk-ins go ahead of scheduled people without even asking who sent them. Then, they put you in this super small room, like 25 sq ft, and you're just left standing there waiting for a group interview. The questions they give you are actually 8 general questions plus six practical ones. The HR department seemed really disorganized, and it felt like they were totally out of sync with how they do interviews and get people started.
- Tell us why you're the best fit for this role.
- If you were hiring for this job, what qualities would you seek in a candidate?
- Can you share your most significant professional mistake and explain the circumstances?
Front Office Administrator
The interview process included two on-campus interviews and a take-home typing test that was like homework. Communication took some time, but the HR team was nice and responsive when I reached out. I haven't heard back yet, but I enjoyed the experience.
