Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Northrop Grumman.
Program Manager
I had a phone interview first, then an in-person panel interview. A week after that, the recruiter told me I was the top candidate and asked if I was still interested. Another week went by, and the recruiter informed me that they had offered the position to an internal candidate, even though they admitted I was better qualified and interviewed better. The recruiter also mentioned that they prioritize internal hires, with about 85% of their hires being internal. Given this, I wouldn't recommend applying here unless you're a recent graduate, as the odds are heavily against external candidates.
- Tell me about yourself, and how your experience aligns with this role.
- Describe a time you managed a complex project from start to finish.
- How do you handle competing priorities and tight deadlines?
Program Manager
The hiring process was pretty straightforward. I interviewed for a role I'm very familiar with. It took a good chunk of time and felt a bit like a grind. I went through a phone screening, a one-on-one chat, and then a panel interview. Since I've been a Program Manager for a while, they had a tough time finding challenges I couldn't handle. My advice? Do your homework beforehand and really understand the contract.
- What action would you take if a customer requested you hire their wife?
- How would you respond if you found out a manager was telling employees to use the wrong charge code?
Program Manager
It kicked off with a recruiter call where they went over my salary expectations, what I was looking for in a role, and verified my background. Then, the next week, I had a group interview with the hiring manager, engineering manager, and business development lead. We talked about my resume, how I'd handle workplace scenarios, and my experience with SW development, change management, and project management. I also got to ask them a bunch of questions about the job. After that, they had me come in again to meet with a customer, which was pretty casual. Then, they had me come in a third time to meet with the Director, who was away during my previous visits. I got the offer a couple of days later, at the salary I wanted.
- Tell me about your experience managing large-scale IT projects.
- Describe your approach to implementing organizational change.
