Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NorthOne.
Software Engineer
Had an intro call with the recruiter for about 20 minutes with some general questions. Then there was a take-home challenge where I had to implement a serverless GraphQL API for a transaction ledger. After that, I had a technical interview with two senior engineers, which lasted an hour. This interview felt a bit unplanned. It was supposed to be about the take-home challenge, but they barely touched on it, asking only superficial questions. Instead, they dove deep into other topics, seemingly more interested in the technologies they use (Node, GraphQL, Serverless, Event-Driven, No-SQL) than the actual problem. It was odd because they didn't know basic stats like active users or traffic volume.
- Can you tell me about event-driven architecture?
- What are your thoughts on the CQRS pattern?
- How would you handle duplicated events or requests?
Software Developer
The hiring team was really friendly and informative, answering all my questions about the job. Even though I didn't get an offer, it felt like a good process, and I'd probably try again later. It seems like a cool place to work.
- Could you share what you were most proud of creating in your previous role?
Software Engineer
I was asked to create something with any language I preferred. They suggested about 5 hours for it, but it actually took more time than that. After I finished the coding, I had an interview over Google Hangout where I showed my code and went through a couple of questions about it. Then, they asked about my past work/projects.
- Tell me about your learning experiences from your most recent project.
