Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Northfield Mount Hermon School.
Groundskeeper
Met with the supervisor and director of facilities. They asked about my previous grounds experience and skills I could bring to the department. It's a new position, so the interviewers weren't sure how it would play out or how different it would be from a normal grounds position.
- How would you describe your management style?
Director of Individual Giving
First there was a phone call, then a one-on-one meeting with the director. After that I met with half of the thirty staff members, seven directors, and the Head of School. It was a really comprehensive process. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, and they were thorough. The questions were a mix of challenging and humorous. It was obvious that they really prioritize hiring people who fit the mission and values of the school - head, heart, and hands.
- Can you share an example of a time you made a fundraising ask?
Lead Cook
I met with Seth for about an hour, it was more like a chat than a formal interview. Then I spoke with the Director of Dining Services, who really seemed to want me for the role because he's trying to diversify his staff. After that, I went to HR to discuss benefits. The whole thing took around 2 hours because of the handoffs between my potential supervisor and his boss, and then his supervisor wanted to go over the benefits package. I'm not thrilled about the high health insurance deductible and the extra costs for dental and vision, though.
- What's your availability to start?
- Can you describe your experience with large-scale food preparation?
- Tell me about your experience working with organizations or facilities that cater to a large volume of people.
Communications Program Associate
The interview process for the Communications Program Associate position was really nice. The three professionals I met with were genuinely interested in my background and we discussed how well the role and I would fit together. My only wish was that the interview could have been in person.
- Tell me about your past project management experience and your familiarity with project management software like Basecamp.
