Digital Transformation Lead
The interview process was very clear, focusing on competencies. It started with a panel of 3 interviewers, followed by a 7-minute oral presentation without any visual aids. I had 2 weeks to prepare, and the question was given to me when they offered the interview. The job description clearly listed the required competencies and other requirements, so it was very obvious what they were looking for.
- What strategies do you employ for effective collaboration and partnership working at a senior management level?
Administrative Officer
To be considered for this role, you needed at least 5 GCSEs in subjects including English and Maths. After that, you had to fill out an Application Form with your personal details and work history, which was pretty simple. If your application was successful, you usually got invited to an Aptitude Test. This test was done in an exam hall and seemed to check your skills in numbers, following instructions, and how fast and accurate you are. If you passed the test well enough, you'd then have a Competence Based Interview. The interviewers were nice and made me feel comfortable. They asked me to talk about times I gave great customer service, dealt with tricky written stuff, or assisted a coworker.
- Can you tell me about a time you gave excellent service to a customer?
- Could you describe an instance where you had to manage complicated written information?
- Please share an example of when you assisted a colleague with their tasks.
Deputy Principal
The hiring process was quite long and had some repeated tests from the initial application. It started with tests and the application, then an assessment centre. During the assessment centre, you were given an unseen scenario and had to analyze it. After the analysis, you presented your findings to a panel via Webex. This was followed by a panel interview where they asked competency-based questions. The questions were a bit tricky because they seemed to focus on clusters like 'value for money' and 'people management', but the question might only explicitly mention one, like 'tell us about a project you ensured value for money on...'. So, you had to remember to incorporate the people management aspect into your answer. Then, there was an unseen written test that assessed your ability to respond to hypothetical situations using clear, professional English. Finally, some tests from the initial application were repeated. Managing time for the presentation and written exercise was a challenge.
- Can you share an example of a project where you successfully delivered value for money?
- Describe a situation where you managed a project and ensured value for money, also touching upon people management.
- Present your approach to hypothetical scenarios, demonstrating clear communication and professionalism.
Placement Student
The interview process was pretty standard and took place on Cisco Webex. There were two people interviewing me, and it was all done in under 20 minutes. They were nice, and it felt pretty chill, but I was a bit surprised that I didn't get to ask any questions at the end. It was also a bit informal for a government job. They asked about three main things, and I didn't need to do any specific research about the company. It was quick and to the point, but man, I didn't hear back until April, which was three months later, so just be ready for a long wait.
- Can you share an instance where you utilized data to inform a decision?
- Describe a situation where you collaborated effectively within a team.
- Recount a time when you had to meet a tight deadline.
