I was contacted in July and asked to interview with a group of about 7 people. Over the next two months, I had two more interviews. The second interview was 3 hours long and involved meeting with 3 different sets of people, with a total of 22 people invited, though fewer were present that day. The final interview was a one-on-one with the person I would be working most closely with. The interview timings were fixed, and I had to take PTO to accommodate them. I waited about two weeks between each interview. About two weeks after the last interview, my application status changed to 'position filled', and I realized I wasn't selected. I never received any follow-up or thanks. I was excited about being a front-runner but had a bad experience due to the outcome and feeling disrespected.

After the university reached out, they scheduled an in-person interview. I thought it was going to be one 1:1, but it turned out to be three separate 1:1 interviews. Two interviewers were directly above me in the hierarchy. The third interviewer, though, didn't seem relevant to my hiring and was pretty rude. Then, just as I was about to leave, the secretary told me another PI wanted to interview me for a job that wasn't even posted yet. So, I ended up doing four 1:1s in three hours. It was exhausting, and honestly, doing an impromptu interview for an unposted job was really uncomfortable. I like to be prepared by knowing the research, the PI, and the funding situation beforehand.

The interview process involved discussing your experience designing research studies with physicians, life scientists, or other professionals and sharing an example. Then, you were asked to explain how you would analyze clinical or survey data using statistical approaches like longitudinal analysis, mixed effect modeling, logistic regression analyses, and model building techniques. Finally, you were asked to recall a time when you monitored clinical trials or experiments to ensure adherence to procedures or verify data quality.

The people interviewing me (phone and in person) were nice and professional, but the whole process took forever. I know everyone's busy, but I already had other job offers weeks before hearing back from NEOMED. It's not great for candidates or for the departments hiring when the process takes so long after they've already taken down the job application.
