First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at North Dakota State University.
Assistant Professor
Overall, it was a great experience. The process spanned two days and included both a research talk and a teaching session. Everyone I met was cordial and welcoming. I learned a lot about the university and Fargo.
- Can you describe your research vision for the next five years and your teaching plans?
Clinical Care Coordinator
The interview process felt calm and professional, pretty standard for a structured setting. The questions asked were clear and directly relevant to the job's main duties. It felt more like a discussion about how I could fit into their team, not a high-stress test. Overall, it was a good and informative experience.
- Which areas of professional development are you presently concentrating on?
Research Specialist
As a grad student at the time, I was the sole applicant for this role. The search committee, which consisted of my doctoral committee members and a few colleagues, conducted a very formal interview despite my knowing I'd get the job. Everyone was professional yet personable, which I appreciated. This is typical in my department, as I've served on two faculty search committees and find it to be the standard procedure. I genuinely like how interviews are handled here.
- Where do you see yourself in the next decade?
Instructor
The interview was informal in the department chair's office. We talked briefly about my CV and schedule. I was asked about my comfort level with class sizes. I was also asked about my interest in joining committees or department meetings, though it was clarified this wasn't mandatory.
- What is your capacity for student numbers in a class?
- Would you like to be involved in any committees or other department meetings?
- Do you require an office space?
