First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Norfolk Southern.
Account Analyst
It was pretty easy and mostly behavioral. You should definitely have examples of working well in a team and a time you led the charge in solving a problem. Make sure to show you learn fast and really focus on the little things.
- Can you share a time when you overcame a challenging problem?
Account Analyst
First, all the candidates were directed to a conference room where a Sr. Analyst and an HR representative explained the benefits of working with the organization for about 45 minutes. We were then paired individually with different account analyst to shadow, while others had to complete their two 30 minute panel style interviews. Make sure to ask the account analyst you are shadowing questions you may have about the position and culture of the organization. The organization treats you to lunch with the account analyst and other interviewees. The process is designed to be as laid back as possible, while making those that are interviewing for the position comfortable.
- Can you share an instance where you demonstrated leadership?
- What is your motivation for joining this company?
- What are your aspirations for the near future and further down the line?
Account Analyst
So there are a bunch of steps. First, you apply. Then there's a skills test, and a phone interview/screening. After that, you get invited for a two-day interview at the office. Day one is a panel discussion with current employees to talk about the job and answer questions. Day two, you have interviews with two panels of 4 people each, one is formal and one is supposed to be informal. You also shadow a current employee and a manager. They ask basic questions and go through your resume. Nothing too wild. Everyone was really nice. They kept saying to be coachable. But what stuck with me was when someone said they usually don't hire from outside, implying they prefer hiring former interns or internal people over external candidates for this bill collecting job. The job got posted again a few weeks later.
