First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Norfolk Public Schools.
Teacher
The interview process involved a recruiter call, followed by a phone screen. Then, there was a technical screen where I was asked to describe my teaching philosophy, how I differentiate instruction, handle classroom behavior, incorporate technology, and assess student learning.
- Can you tell me about your teaching style?
Special Education Teacher
The interview process took hours at a job fair on a weekend. I was mainly sitting and waiting for an interview which only took 5 minutes. The whole process seemed very disorganized. I was told by the company that I was not qualified to teach the subject matter I applied for and then they called me a month later to tell me that I was and they offered me a one to one interview with a principal.
- Can you tell me about your previous work experience?
Administrator
It was a pretty standard panel interview experience. I was surprised they didn't start with a warm-up question like sharing about my background or why I'm interested in working with them. The overall experience was positive, and the interviewers were cordial. The questions were what you'd expect for an administrative position.
- How would you improve a school that is not performing well?
- Tell me about a time you had to deal with an upset parent.
Teacher Assistant
The interview process was pretty straightforward, I think almost anyone could get hired. It was easy to get in, and they had good benefits. This was a while ago, back in 2006, so it might be different now.
