I gave my availability, did a phone screening, then went in person. During the in-person interview, they really stressed that you'd have to work whatever hours others don't want. I told them the days I wasn't available, and after driving 2 hours, they said you can't really say no, there's mandatory overtime, especially when you're new. We then discussed why I wanted to work there, and then circled back to availability. After that, two EMTs who looked like they were in their 20s administered a psychomotor test. They thanked me for my time and mentioned I might hear from HR. I did hear back, but it was to let me know my schedule didn't work for them.

It was a 3 step interview consisting of: 1. NREMT medical skills assessment 2. General Impressions and basic questions 3. Scheduling and availability. The interview is pretty straight forward and there is 3 people asking you questions during the second part of it.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

Applied on Thursday evening, and Friday morning got a call from a recruiter to set up an in-person interview at the Livermore station for Monday at 10a. The email confirmed the interview would have 4 parts and take 1-2 hours. It included a verbal interview with a supervisor, a scheduling questionnaire about availability, a written test similar to the national registry test, and a verbal patient assessment based on national registry skills. Monday morning, I signed in, did a temperature check and COVID questionnaire, and then took a 42-question multiple-choice NREMT-style written test. After that, I met with the operations manager for a ~45-60 minute session that included standard interview questions and a verbal mock patient medical assessment. Finally, on Monday afternoon, the recruiter called with a conditional offer and scheduled a physical agility test for Tuesday morning.

I applied and got called back the same day to schedule an interview for a week later. When I got there, I was given a link to take a quiz testing EMT skills, covering anatomy and basic o2 flow rates. After passing, I had a one on one with the recruiter manager, and she was really nice and offered me the job right away.
