The interview process started with some basic aptitude and knowledge tests, which were standard for all positions. Then there were two main types of tests: a panel test and a team-based test. The panel test involved direct interviews with the interviewer and served as the final assessment. The team-based test evaluated how well you collaborate with a team and your role within it, presenting you with various situations.

For authentication tokens, I usually do a pre-request setup. This involves authenticating with an auth endpoint (like OAuth2, JWT, etc.), grabbing the token, and then saving it in an environment variable or the test context. After that, the token gets automatically added to the headers of later requests. In automated frameworks, this is all part of the test suite's setup.

Confirmed questions5 questions
  • How do you manage authentication tokens for testing?
  • Can you explain how you set up authentication before making requests?
  • What's your method for obtaining and storing authentication tokens?

The onsite interview included 5 team members with diverse backgrounds (2 Biology, 1 Chemical Engineering, 1 Analytical Chemistry, and the HM). The HM reports to a Chemical Engineering leader with a Biochemistry background. This interview was for the top 3 candidates. It seemed the final decision was based more on personal preferences of the HM and her superior than just technical skills. HR mentioned the HM would decide based on whether she felt comfortable working with me. No tough questions were asked, even though my qualifications were better than some interviewers. I didn't get an offer. The same job was posted again two weeks after my onsite.
