& Process

It was a truly awful interview process. I first met someone at Meet the Firms who passed my resume on. Then, I was contacted for a virtual meeting with the audit staff. We talked about my resume and they asked me about my experiences and strengths. It was a conversational and friendly chat. After that, they emailed me to schedule a second, in-person meeting for evaluations. I flew down for this, and once I arrived, I was told I'd be taking tests on Word, Excel, and an Audit Simulation, with an optional Access test. I was given a computer and had 15 minutes for the Word test, which involved drafting a business letter to an agency owner requesting an audit appointment and documentation for four years. Then, I had about 30 minutes for the Excel test, which had a lot of data that needed formatting, totaling, alphabetizing, and prorating using given rates. Following that, I moved to another room for the audit simulation, which was a 15+ page booklet with contracts and journals, plus a booklet of schedules. I had 30 minutes to answer 6 questions using these schedules, after the interviewer read a prompt and went over both booklets for about 15 minutes. They didn't make it clear until the very end that we couldn't have the background info, and it was also a test of note-taking skills. They provided a notepad, pencils, and calculators. Afterward, I had to review my simulation answers and explain my thought process, with the interviewer taking notes. Finally, senior staff came in and interviewed me, giving me feedback on my performance on all the assessments. It was annoying because after the first two assessments, I wanted to quit, but I continued. However, they told me I failed in all aspects and gave me tips for other firms, mentioning my poor performance on the first two exams. They asked random questions in the last part and why I didn't know certain things. They also mentioned the simulation was a test to see if you ask for help, as extensions are given, but the interviewer was unpleasant, so I didn't feel comfortable asking.

It was honestly a terrible group interview experience. The format was very awkward because the interviewers took turns asking each of us the exact same set of questions, one by one. Instead of feeling like a natural conversation, it became extremely repetitive and uncomfortable. Sitting there listening to each person give their answer before repeating the same thing myself felt draining, and it made the whole process unnecessarily long. On top of that, the interviewer didn’t seem very engaged, which only added to the tension in the room and made the environment even more awkward.

Applied through the Meet the Firms event at school. I was contacted within two weeks and we scheduled an interview. The first part involved a series of tests and then the interview itself. The first interview was with the managers, followed by a second interview with the partners.
