Investigative Reporter
The interview process was pretty simple. I talked to some people from the editorial team. They were cool, asked a lot of questions, and were pretty funny. I knew right then I wanted to join them.
- Can you share details about your past work experiences?
- What kind of media do you consume?
- How would you describe your approach to work?
Reporter
The interview process included three rounds, which is pretty standard. First, I spoke with the hiring manager, then a senior editor, and finally the executive editor. They asked me straightforward questions about the role and my motivation for applying, along with some less conventional questions to gauge how well I'd fit in with the team.
- Could you share the titles of the last two books you've read?
Creative Director
The hiring process took a really long time, almost 6 months from November 2021 to May. It involved 4 interview rounds: a phone screen, a hiring manager interview, two panel interviews (one with 6 people, another with 2), and a creative exercise where I had to give strategy recommendations based on marketing criteria. After all that, I was told over the phone, two weeks after the last HR contact, that they weren't hiring anyone because they needed to re-evaluate their needs. They were really slow to respond, taking anywhere from 2 weeks to a month between communications, which I only put up with because they kept talking about how the role was growing and they saw potential for me to take on more responsibility, which turned out to be not true. It was a bad hiring experience.
- Can you explain how you would present our company and its services to possible clients?
Sales
I met with two people separately in a small conference room. They didn't ask me many questions. I felt comfortable. I was disappointed when they said they'd let me know about my status within the week, but I never heard back about not getting the job. They didn't ask any specific sales questions or ask me to show sales results. We talked about batting average for signing up a client. The salary was $40K plus commission. They expect you in the field 5 days a week. The base salary is low. They only pay $.32 per mile, so I would have to cover my own gas, tolls, mileage, and all T&E. They would provide an iPad and cell phone.
- Could you tell me about your resume?
