After the initial phone screens, I was told there would be more interviews if I passed those. An external recruiting agency was handling the screening. They couldn't give me much detail about what the interview process would actually be like, and seemed a bit frustrated themselves about not getting more info from the company.

I had a phone call and then an on-site interview with one person. I got there early, but the interview started late. They asked about my start date and said I'd get benefits info by email. A week later, I got rejected by an automated system with no feedback or personal contact. It was disappointing because I really liked the job and company and thought I could make a difference, especially in candidate experience, which is an area I feel I could impact. I know it's competitive, but an automated rejection after investing so much time and effort isn't the right way to handle it.

I applied online for a Research Scientist role in the Analytical Development group, with openings for various research scientist levels. After a 3-month wait, HR contacted me for an initial screening. That same week, I had a phone interview with the hiring manager where we discussed the job and they asked technical questions. The next week, HR set up an on-site interview, but the day before, they switched it to a virtual format. This virtual interview involved back-to-back Teams calls with different employees, including scientists, the associate director, and HR. I followed up after about 3 weeks and was informed they were still deciding. The following week, HR called about a potential offer, revealing they wanted to hire me as a Research Scientist I, not for the Research Scientist II position I was qualified for. This bait-and-switch led to no agreement and no offer.

My interview lasted from about 9am to 11:30am. I met with 7 people in total, split into 4 groups. The first group was my potential manager, and then I met with 3 more groups, each with two people. Everyone talked about what they do at the company and their daily routines. While there were some questions about my behavior and past experiences, it was mainly a conversation about the company and the job itself. I thought the time spent with each person or group was just right – enough for discussion but not so much that we ran out of topics. They're really focused on finding people who will fit well with their team. Sure, skills matter, but someone who can add more to the team is a big plus. As long as you're friendly, personable, and have the skills they're looking for, you should be good!
