Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NielsenIQ.
Software Development Engineer
It was pretty chill, only basic SQL questions were asked. The interviewer was cool and asked a simple Python question about strings. The rest was all SQL. Don't stress too much, just be confident in your resume and especially your database projects, as the interviewer was interested in my DBMS project. So, make sure to include something about DBMS on your resume.
- Can you create a table?
- What is the difference between DDL and DML?
- What is RDBMS?
Software Engineer
The interview was really great and the person interviewing me was super nice which made everything feel relaxed and positive. It all went smoothly and was set up well so I could get my thoughts out and also learn about the job and company. I liked that it felt more like a chat than a test, which was both helpful and fun.
- Can you tell me about your knowledge of programming languages and fundamental concepts?
Senior Software Engineer
It was a 2-round process. The first was a programming round and the second was a tech interview. I passed the first round and went on to the second, where I had to solve 3 javascript/react questions, and I did. The interviewer and I had a good conversation, and I thought I'd nailed it because I got all 3 problems right. But then HR sent an email saying they found someone with more relevant experience, even though I have 11 years, which is the first thing on my resume. They could have rejected me after the first step, but they decided to waste everyone's time with a fake interview. The feedback was hilarious: Pros: Solved all the javascript problems Cons: Didn't know javascript well.
- How do you find the largest number in a Javascript array?
- Can you create a timer function in React?
- How would you flatten a Javascript array?
