Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NewStore.
Software Engineer
The interview process was 5 steps long: introduction call, technical assessment, technical review with the team, call with manager, and offer. I reached step 5 but they told me they cannot make me an offer. One of the people team contacted me after few weeks: 'we are ready to make you an offer'. Next, I talked with the new manager: 'Sorry, we're not able to make you an offer this time. Maybe in the future.' This was a misleading experience. Very unprofessional company.

Senior Software Engineer
Applied on LinkedIn, then the recruiter reached out and arranged the interviews. First up was a 45-minute technical talk with a VP of Engineering, covering general tech topics and my resume. Then, a 3-hour online coding test with 4 relatively easy questions, mainly involving array manipulation and password verification, plus a Python challenge. I got good feedback on that. Round 3 was a 90-minute live coding session with two engineers, focusing on building a pub-sub/event bus system in Go, which the VP said went 'very positive'. After that, a 90-minute software design round with an engineer where I had to improve a sample service, focusing on an event-driven architecture and discussing solution tradeoffs. The final round was 60 minutes with the recruiter and another VP of Engineering, mainly HR and managerial stuff. It was a long process but pretty enjoyable. Sadly, despite positive feedback throughout, I got an auto-generated rejection email. Kind of a bummer, especially for a company that talked so much about employee benefits to not give any real feedback after an 8-hour interview process. Bad form, honestly. Just a heads-up for others interviewing with them.

- Password Validation of a given string, Caesar Cipher program
Senior Software Engineer
The process was quite candidate-friendly. It started with a 30-minute call with the recruiter. Then there was a home assessment task that took about 60 to 90 minutes. After that, a technical interview with engineers that included some live programming. Finally, a discussion with the CTO about agile and the organization in general. Everything felt fast, professional, and clear, and I really liked the process.
