First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Newk's Eatery.
Cashier Server
The interview was super relaxed, and I didn't feel stressed at all. Right when I got there, they gave me a cup so I could grab any drink I wanted while waiting. The person interviewing me was really open about everything, which I totally appreciate.
- Can you tell me about your availability?
Front of House Staff
I waited a bit when I arrived because they were busy, but the actual interview was super short, less than five minutes. It happened right in the middle of the busy restaurant, which made it really hard to hear and lots of stuff got missed because of the noise. I felt like I was constantly being interrupted. When I asked about COVID, they were really rude and said they don't follow CDC guidelines, which was weird since their website says they're careful about masks and sanitizing. The vibe was just arrogant, like they thought they were better than me. I get that employers don't have to be nice, but being openly disrespectful isn't cool either. In the end, they said I wasn't worth the money, time, or effort to hire.
- How would you handle working in our fast-paced setting?
Front of House
I submitted an online application and was called in for an interview with a manager. I was then called back for a second interview. Both managers asked the same questions, mostly focusing on my availability and if I had a car. It took about two weeks for the first interview, and they asked me to come back the next day for the second one. I was offered the job and had to return the following day for orientation. It seems like they hire last minute when they need someone right away rather than hiring qualified people regularly.
- Can you tell me about a time you went the extra mile in your previous role?
Cook
I applied online to 3 local stores and got called back for an interview at one. They asked standard interview questions like, "What does Service mean to you?", and "Tell me about a time..." behavioral questions. They only used about 3 or 4 questions in the interview format. Mostly, they talked about the company, expectations, and hours.
- Could you share an instance where you provided exceptional service to a customer?
- Tell me about a time you went above and beyond for a customer.
