First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Newfold Digital.
Software Engineer Intern
First there was a MCQ round, then a coding challenge where I had to build a library with tasks that got harder. After that, I had two technical interviews and finally an HR interview.
- Questions about Operating Systems
- Questions about SQL
- Questions about Java
Software Engineer
The interview process started with an online MCQ round on Talview with 60 questions covering Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Networks, Operating Systems, and Linux concepts, for over 450 students. Next, about 30 students moved to an online coding round on HackerEarth, where we had 1 hour to solve 3 moderate to high difficulty problems, including String Mismatch, Maximum Length Subarray (finding the longest subarray of prime numbers), and String Minimization. Round 3 was a 1-hour technical interview on Google Meet with two interviewers, where 14 students participated. They asked about my projects, Node.js, databases, Java, Flutter, and core CS concepts like TCP/IP, Thrashing, SQL vs NoSQL, Indexing, Hashing, and Scaling. I also had to write pseudocode and dry-run for Longest Substring Without Repeating Characters and finding the middle element of a linked list. Round 4 was another 1-hour technical interview on Talview with one interviewer, attended by about 6 students. This round focused on my projects again, Node.js popularity, Multithreading, Concurrency, Parallelism, Race Around Condition, Node.js non-blocking I/O, integrating Google Maps API, Native vs Cross-Platform apps, and a coding problem to Add Two Arrays. I also had to design a data structure and algorithm for a problem involving people meeting or not meeting. Finally, Round 5 was a quick 15-minute HR round for about 3 students, asking typical HR questions about myself, internships, handling failures, planning, a one-word description, and company knowledge.
- Could you tell me a bit about yourself?
- Can you elaborate on the projects listed on your resume?
- Regarding your Node.js projects, why did you opt for Node.js over other frameworks, and what database solution did you utilize?
Software Developer
The interview had questions that were out of the typical syllabus. Honestly, it felt like luck played a role too. Some questions were on the fundamentals of DBMS, CN, and OS, while others delved into specifics like B++ trees in DBMS and agile software development.
- Can you explain the difference between B++ trees and B trees?
- What are ACID properties?
- Design an IPL database adhering to ACID properties, and specifically define durability with an example.
