First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Newfield Exploration.
Petroleum Engineer
I applied for the job via the university's career fair. About two weeks later, I got an email to set up an on-campus interview. It was an hour long, with two people from Newfield and me. One interviewer was a reservoir engineer from my school, and the other was an HR person from corporate. They were both really nice and made me feel comfortable. The questions were mostly about my past internships, since they had my resume. No weird behavioral questions, and it went fine. I didn't get the job, but it was a good experience.
- Could you elaborate on the duties and responsibilities of your past internships?
- Tell me more about the specific details and duties from your previous internships.
IT Intern
I got in touch with NFX via my on-campus recruiting services. I went to a pre-interview dinner which was super helpful in getting me hired. The company felt like a standard workplace, and the employees were quite relaxed for an oil and gas company. I had one behavioral interview with two employees, and one of them was at the dinner.
- Describe your life in a 30-second TV commercial.
Executive Assistant
The HR Rep was really welcoming but also clear about the job's demands. It was great that the interviewers and the staffing agency focused on positive aspects, which helped with my nerves. Every interviewer had a packet ready with the job posting, a timed interview schedule, and pre-written notes on my resume. It was evident they knew exactly what they were looking for and what issues they'd had to address with past candidates. They were honest about the company's situation and the role's challenges. They were very direct and seemed genuinely proud of their company.
- Can you describe how you navigate office politics?
- Have you worked with organizations experiencing significant growth challenges before?
Materials Scientist
Met with the Materials Manager at a Career-Fair and we connected immediately. About a week and a half later, I got an email for an online interview. The interview was about 30-40 minutes long, conducted over an online platform similar to Skype. It was a very easy-going interview, so make sure to tell them why you want to work there, why the oil and gas industry, and how you'd be a good fit.
- Can you describe how you manage your time effectively to achieve your goals?
