Developer
It was a 3 round process. The first was technical, the second was more abstract questions and the third with the Director Level from Tokyo. The first round was face-to-face in Singapore at NewEdge office. Questions were about Oracle partitioning, Global Temp tables, new futures in oracle 11i, materialized views, types of trigger, mutating table, commit inside trigger, Snapshot too old error, external tables, star schema and snowflake schema, index organized tables, Oracle Indexes and other medium level Oracle tech questions. The second round was video conference with two guys from Hang Kong, one manager and his subordinate. The VC was done at their Singapore office. Questions were more abstract to know your skills, abilities and personality. Like what you do if your solution is rejected by your team, how you manage tough business users, your strength and weakness, why you want to leave your current org, size of your database (expected in Tera Bytes), and data volume worked (expected 50+ million or billion rows). The third round was with the Director level from Tokyo and his buddy. I thought it would be checking individual skills and abilities, but surprisingly, they asked all tech questions. Be prepared with how to provide read/write/update privileges, how to conduct auditing of your database objects, if you got access to all data directly (they expect answers about data access restrictions), temp table in Oracle and differences with other databases, Vi Editor commands, how to find differences between two files, how to find particular pattern in directory, how to find number of files in directory and how to search particular word in a file in vi editor.
- Oracle partitioning
- What are Global Temp tables?
- What are the new futures in oracle 11i version?
Client Service Representative
I applied online, then got a call from HR for a basic screening about my resume and background, past and present jobs, and why I want to change. They told me about the role, mentioned they needed someone urgently, and that the hours were unusual (10am-7pm) with holiday availability. Once I agreed, I had a face-to-face interview with the department supervisor and her boss. Due to time issues, it became a group interview with both of them. They described the role again, emphasizing they needed someone proactive, independent, and ready to work, as I'd be the main contact for a top client during late hours. I shared examples of my past client handling, multitasking, independent work, teamwork, and on-the-fly prioritization in fast-paced settings. When I asked the director for feedback on my skills for the role, he said I might be overqualified and not challenged enough, suggesting the role is best for those with 3-7 years of client service experience and no management, front office, or sales background.
- What was the most difficult aspect of the role, specifically regarding availability to work on holidays?
Programmer/Analyst
the position is in Montreal canada. 2 round phone interviews with some guy from Paris(indian?), another from new york(french). Both has strong accents, but somehow can manage through, not many tough questions, just some general one. then face-to-face HR interview. first a technical test, not very difficult. very simple things. But I definitely underestimated HR power, didn't do very well. and failed to get the offer.
- Can you tell me about a time you had a bad boss?
- Could you elaborate on your previous experiences with difficult managers?
Service Desk Engineer
I applied for this job and passed both the first and second interviews, and also the background and reference checks. Typically, you hear back within a week or two about your start date. I waited a month for the recruiter to get back to me, but I had to chase them down. Turns out they decided to make the full-time role a contract position, and then the next day posted the exact same full-time role again. Good company, but unprofessional.
