I sent in my application on The New Times website, along with a cover letter, my resume, and portfolio links. First, I had a quick 15-minute call with a recruiter, and then a 45-minute Zoom interview with the hiring manager.

Applied online and waited about a month to hear back. The whole interview process lasted around 5 weeks. First, I had a chat with the hiring manager, who was really nice. Then, the next week, I had a video interview with some designers and directors. A couple of weeks after that, I went to the NYT office to meet with more directors. Just so you know, things can get a bit hectic there, so interviews might get rescheduled – it's the news business, after all! They might even ask you back for more interviews. Definitely follow up after yours to speed things along!

I had an initial recruiter call with someone from overseas, which felt more like a formality. Then, within a week, I had a virtual interview over Google Meet with the hiring manager. We talked in-depth about my background, how I approach design, and looked at some of my past projects. After that, I got a design assignment with three things to deliver in Google Slides: a moodboard slide for design direction, a slide with two mobile screens, and another slide with two desktop screens. I had four days to complete it, which was pretty tight. There was supposed to be another interview after submitting the design test, but I got another offer and accepted it before that happened.
