This is a Civil Service position and as such has an extremely large amount of applicants. Once you take the test and pass, you are required to go to Albany for a Psychological test and Physical. Assuming you pass you will be scheduled for an interview relating to your background etc. Lengthy background check and Psych evaluation following testing.

So, to become a Lieutenant, you first gotta pass this civil service test. Then there's at least 2 interviews. After that, it's 8 weeks of training at the academy. If you wanna get promoted further, you need to pass another civil service test and have 3 years as a Correction Officer. Then it's 2 weeks at the academy to make Sergeant. And after that, you gotta pass yet another Civil Service test and have at least 1 year as a permanent Correction Sergeant. Finally, it's 1 week at the academy to make Lieutenant.

You'll need to fill out a bunch of background paperwork first, then go over it with an investigator to fix any mistakes. After that, they'll set up a quick fitness test and a psych evaluation. You'll take a written psych test and then talk to a psychologist about your answers. It might take a few months, but then you could get an offer for an eight-week training academy.

It was pretty easy, you just need to have a good understanding of the basics. They are quite flexible. The initial manager was easy to talk to. After I got hired, I had to deal with a manager who was arrogant and played dirty politics.
