First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at New York Psychotherapy and Counseling Center.
Intern
The interview process was smooth, with good questions, and I got to ask my own. Four people interviewed me, and they each asked questions. Everyone was really nice and understanding. They even asked some questions in Spanish.
- Can you tell me about your past experience with specific client cases?
- In those situations, what actions would you take?
- What's your background working with children?
Mental Health Counselor
The interview process started with a phone screening, then an individual interview, and finally a panel interview. Everything was done remotely (phone or video). They asked about my preferred work location out of three options in NYC. The entire process was quite fast, wrapping up in about a week and a half to two weeks from the initial screening to the offer.
- What experience do you have providing trauma resources?
Mental Health Therapist
Got a call for an interview pretty quick, like 2-3 days after applying. Ashley, who called, was really nice and helpful. She gave me all the info I needed and set up my interview. They sent me to the Brooklyn location since it was closer to where I live. The interview itself was pretty basic but thorough. The administrator and assistant administrator were there. Nichole, the administrator, wanted to hear about my past work. We talked about working with vulnerable groups, being culturally aware, and understanding what the clients need. She was friendly and made me feel pretty at ease during the whole thing.
- What motivated you to pursue a career in social work?
- Can you share your experiences working with vulnerable populations?
- How do you ensure you are culturally competent and aware of client needs?
Program Administrator
I was contacted on LinkedIn by the head of HR. The first step was a phone screen with a recruiter. After that, there was a panel interview with the Director and talent acquisition. There were some issues with communication about salary and scheduling. The recruiter mentioned one thing during the phone screen, but then talent acquisition asked about my salary expectations during the interview. I mentioned that I needed more details about the position, especially since it seemed like there might be two more interviews. Pay transparency is the law in NY. The interview process didn't seem to respect everyone's time.
- Considering the evolving landscape of mental health, how would you approach communication with newer clinicians?
