Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at New York Life.
Financial Analyst
It was an in-person screening interview, but not for an actual financial analyst position. The job description was a bit deceiving because it's really a sales position. Before the interview, I had to take a short assessment.
- Do you see yourself working for NYL?
- What role are you looking for?
Financial Analyst
So we had 3 rounds in total. First, a behavioral interview. Then, we discussed my potential role in the company more deeply. After that, I was given an assignment to contact 10 people in my network and ask if they would be willing to meet to learn about life insurance. Finally, there was the decision round.
- To gauge the size of your network, how many people do you think would recognize you if your picture was posted around the city?
Financial Analyst
It was a smooth and informative process. The recruiter, Brendan, did a good job explaining the role and the potential earnings. The job sounds very lucrative, but it seemed very sales-focused and wasn't for me at this time. It would be a great opportunity for someone younger who is a self-starter to achieve a high income.
- Can you walk me through your experience history?
- Describe your ability to ramp up independently.
