First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at New York Historical Society.
Educator
It was a really simple interview, mostly just going over my resume. They asked about how I would teach a topic, and also how I would interact with children. A lot of the conversation was about my teaching methods. They also wanted to know about SCOPE and SEQUENCE and how I'd incorporate it into my lesson plans.
- In what ways will your past experiences benefit you in this role?
Membership Sales Associate
Got an email from the Development Manager, then she gave me a call and we had a friendly chat. After that, we set up two more interviews: one was a one-on-one, and the other was a group interview with her assistant, followed by a quick meet-and-greet with the President of Development. I got the job offer a week later.
- Could you tell me about your experience in Membership?
- How do you feel about interacting with the public for extended periods?
Membership Associate
We kicked things off with a phone chat with HR. Then, they set up an in-person meeting with the head of Individual Giving. Overall, it was a decent experience. Despite the usual interview jitters, the conversation felt a bit awkward and direct.
- Can you tell me about your customer service experience?
HR Coordinator
I had a phone chat first with the head of HR to get a feel for the job. Then, I went in for an in-person interview that had some behavioral questions and a quick tour of the museum. I liked the process, but I didn't get an offer.
- What do you like most about working in HR?
