First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at New York City Housing Authority.
Policy Analyst
The interview process involved an initial screening, followed by a take-home assignment that was challenging but manageable. After submitting the assignment, I had a second interview where I had to explain my approach.
- Can you describe your methodology for completing the assignment?
Procurement Manager
They got straight to the point, with people from the area. They asked about my procurement experience and knowledge of the type of project I would be handling. However, I didn't get any updates about the process after the interview ended.
- How would you manage disagreements among project team members?
Maintenance Technician
I had a virtual interview with the department Supervisor, HR, and Upper Management. They asked me questions about my previous employment, responsibilities, skill set, and job location. They also asked how I felt about certain scheduling aspects. After that, there was a follow-up interview where they extended an offer, and I completed the background check and payroll paperwork.
- Can you describe the types of maintenance work you've done in a multi-unit residential building?
Software QA Tester
I had one interview for the Software QA Tester role with the hiring manager and two team leads, and it lasted about an hour. This one interview before the offer was unusual for a software tester position, as they typically involve several interviews with different team members in IT. Despite the deviation from the norm, my overall experience with the NYCHA interview process was positive.
- Tell me about the various types of testing.
- Regarding specific app errors, what underlying issues might be causing them?
