First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at New York Cares.
Software Engineer
The interview process was quick and took about 2 rounds to be completed. The interviewers were very friendly and I have nothing but nice things to say about people at this company. The people there are extremely kind and hard working and I had an amazing experience my summer there. The interview itself was not challenging.
- Could you start by telling us about yourself?
Program Manager
The interview process involved three stages: a phone screen, an in-person meeting with the potential manager and a colleague, and another in-person meeting with senior staff. I was one of two finalists, and my references were checked. Unfortunately, the hiring manager couldn't secure final approval within the initially communicated timeframe. I was upfront about my situation and had turned down another job offer, only to be informed the next day that they had hired someone else. It was a really frustrating experience, especially because they were aware of my time constraints and the personal sacrifices I made to continue in their process.
- Can you share the most personal or challenging thing a teen has ever confided in you?
Community Partner Relations
The interview process was pretty straightforward. They asked some good questions about how my skills would fit the job. We talked about why volunteerism is important to me, my customer service experience, and some stuff that wasn't on my resume. It was short but fair, with no tricky questions.
- Tell me something about yourself that is not included in your resume.
Volunteer Relations
I was interviewed by three people, the executive director and two volunteer relations manager. The interview went smoothly. They typically look for someone with a good sense of humor, so smiling when appropriate really helped.
- Tell me about your post-graduation aspirations.
- Describe your experience in managing challenging customer service scenarios.
- Can you discuss your previous work history?
