First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at New River Valley Community Services.
Outpatient Clinician
The interview was conducted by the therapist manager and another supervisor. They asked several questions about basic practice, conflict resolution, and being part of an MDT, etc. They also gave plenty of time for me to ask questions.
- What's your approach when there's a disagreement within the treatment team about a client's care?
Coordinator
NRVCS seems to be trying to reduce high turnover by filtering out candidates who aren't a good fit for the clients they serve. This feedback is from someone who recently went through two interviews in different departments. Both interviews involved a series of steps and no payment for the extra work. The multi-step interview process includes things like written assignments with deadlines and shadowing/ride-alongs, which take up your time and effort without any compensation. It would be different if they at least offered some pay (even minimum wage) for the time and effort you put in, on top of the usual interview parts. But they don't. This feels like a ridiculous interview tactic because it's exhausting, and you could be looking for better opportunities elsewhere without all the hassle. These unpaid actions, which devalue potential employees, often backfire, causing interviewees to withdraw from the process because they already feel taken advantage of by NRVCS. My suggestion to management: reconsider your interviewing approach and show that you value people's time and effort during the interview process by compensating them. If you can't make candidates feel valued during the interview, it makes you wonder how you'll value them as employees.
- If a client with an ID/DD started masturbating while you were transporting them, what would you do?
School Based Clinician
Got the interview call about a week or two after applying. The interview was pretty quick and to the point, with several supervisors who were looking for new clinicians. It was a pleasant experience overall. They called to offer me a position within a week.
- Can you share your experience working with children?
- How would you handle various scenarios? Give examples.
- What do you consider your strengths?
Direct Service Worker
First, you'll fill out an online application. Then, you'll be called in for an interview. After that, there's a criminal background check, a CPS/APS background check, a driving records check, and a drug screen. The PTO and benefits are great though, so it's worth the long application process.
- Describe how you would handle a specific type of situation.
