& Process

I interviewed with two people from the department. They checked all my references and asked them the same questions. I got a verbal offer and they asked when I could start. Then I had to wait for the official offer after HR approved it. The whole process took about a month after the posting closed.

It started with a structured online interview with the department. After that, I had an on-site interview which included a paper presentation and meetings with various faculty members. Finally, I spoke with the deans. There were also lunches and dinners arranged with faculty who were part of the recruitment committee.

I had to spend about 4 hours on my computer filling out an application and doing other tests before my first interview. Then, I had a 90-minute interview with the Marketing Director. They asked me a lot of questions and gave me two tests, one of which was a personality test. The whole process was supposed to include two more interviews, with the CEO being the last one. Even though I have a lot of experience and expertise, I didn't get a second interview. I'm not sure why, maybe it's because I have a PhD and 20+ years of experience, and they only wanted a Bachelor's degree and two years of experience. Or maybe it's because I have grey hair and the interviewer looked really young. It's also possible they didn't invite me back because I told them that, based on what they advertised, they actually needed someone with much more knowledge and skills to do the job.

I spoke with my potential supervisor, and we talked about my past experience. I also had to answer common interview questions like 'what are your strengths and weaknesses?' I went over some of my previous projects. After the interview, I was told to send the supervisor a writing sample via email. I shook hands and left feeling pretty good. I made sure to send thank you emails to everyone on the interview committee once I got home. I didn't hear back for a few days.
