First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.
Intern
It was a super easy virtual interview, just one round. Mostly talked about when I'm available, why I wanna work there, and what kind of law I like. Pretty much got the offer on the spot.
- Tell me about the types of law you're interested in and why you'd like to work here.

The process is standard. You should be ready to talk about your resume and your writing sample. I really think you should put a cover letter in your application. Also, get ready to explain why you decided to go into public service law instead of some other type of law.
- How do you handle prioritizing your tasks?
Deputy Attorney General
It was about a month and a half after I applied when the first round happened, which was an hour-long panel interview with three attorneys. Then, there was a short one-on-one with a senior attorney that was basically a formality. It took several months between the first and second round, and I got an offer a few days after the second one.
- Can you tell me about your experience?
- What are your interests regarding this office?
- Would you like to discuss your writing sample?
Detective
I applied through their website and then just waited for a long time. I followed up and they confirmed they got my application and said I'd be contacted soon, so I waited more. After a full year of waiting because I really wanted to work there, I reached out again and was told that many people apply and they apologized for the delay but would get to me soon. In the second year, I finally got a phone call about my application. We reviewed the application I submitted and they told me what they needed from me. Then they said I'd get a call within two weeks to set up an interview if I was qualified, or they'd still reach out if not. It's been almost two months since that call, and I'm still waiting!

- What's your source for learning about this opportunity?
