First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at New Classrooms.
QA Engineer
There were 4 rounds plus a take-home assignment. The app for the assignment was super unstable, the UI kept changing. They also strung me along asking for my recommendations on test case management, bug tracking, and automation frameworks. After I gave them all that info, I got rejected. Then I saw they posted a new job mentioning all the stuff I recommended. Super disappointing, especially since I've worked with PII/PHI data at other companies that didn't have so many interview rounds.
- The phone screening ended up being a technical interview.
- The first round with the QA Director focused on personality and QA processes.
- Complete the take-home assignment.
Software Engineer
The interview process kicked off on April 30th and involved four rounds. First, there was an HR phone interview that included some basic technical questions. Next, I participated in a group interview with the Production Technology hiring committee. This was followed by a take-home coding challenge that lasted two weeks. After about a one to two-week delay, there was another group interview. Following the group interview, another two and a half weeks went by, with the final interview on June 29th. I received a rejection email on July 19th. The whole process took close to three and a half months. Even though I got rejected, I had a positive experience, although I felt like I got pretty close to the end.
- Could you design a website that visually represents data from submitted JSON files?
- Can you explain the fundamentals of network systems?
- What is your understanding of HTML and Javascript?
Grants Manager
The whole thing took about a month. First, I talked to an associate, and then about a week later, I interviewed with the VP. They gave me a homework project that they said would only take 3 hours, but that was way off! A lot of the questions I had about the organization, the associate didn't seem to know the answers to. It's tough to get funding or sell what the org does when even someone on the inside doesn't seem to understand the mission, especially if you don't have a background in education.

Talent Associate
I applied on a Saturday and heard back about an interview on Monday. The first interview was a phone call and went well. Then I had a follow-up in-person interview the next week with the Director of Talent. I gave a pitch for potential applicants and then answered some standard interview questions that let me talk about my resume and why I wanted the Talent Associate job. Soon after, I got an email for another interview, this time a video call on Zoom with the Senior Director of Talent. The questions were pretty much the same as before, but this time I could talk about specific contributions I'd make. A few days later, they asked for references and then I got an offer. It was a really good experience, felt more like chatting than a formal interview.
- Why are you interested in New Classrooms?
- What qualities do you seek in a manager?
- What feedback, both positive and negative, would your previous manager give you?
