Applied online, then a few weeks later, the hiring manager emailed me to schedule a video interview. The interview itself went pretty well; I thought the organization's mission was laudable, and the team seemed committed and supportive of each other. I also provided portfolio examples to the hiring manager when they asked. Still, I was surprised to never hear back about my candidacy status.

First there was a phone screening, then an in-person or virtual interview. They asked for references. I didn't get the job I applied for, but they did offer me a different one. The interviewers were nice, but the process felt disorganized, and I got some emails that weren't meant for me.

It was a good experience overall. There was one panel interview with current staff members who were a director, manager, and specialist. It lasted about an hour and was mostly behavioral questions. I got the offer soon after.

I applied in 2021 for this role, but they were reconfiguring and paused the search. I reapplied in 2022 when it reopened. The screener wasn't a staff member or board member, but a friend of a board member. He worked in HIV nonprofit in another city and didn't work with youth. He kept interrupting me and seemed to think I was wasting his time by not answering questions matter-of-factly. I didn't get past screening, which seems good now given the red flags about disorganization, discourtesy, poor judgment, and lack of staff support.
