First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at New Albany Country Club.
Sports Cafe Attendant
It was a pretty simple interview, mostly basic questions about the job. I got to see the cafe and the area around it. Also met some other people who work there and got to ask them questions. Saw how they handle the ordering process.
- Do you have prior experience in similar roles?
- Are you available to work early mornings or late nights?
- Are you able to operate kitchen equipment, take customer orders, and cook food?
Concierge
I found a job posting on Craigslist.org that was anonymous, so I called HR a week later to confirm if it was the same posting as one on their website. They confirmed it was, but mentioned their computer system was down, so my resume hadn't been reviewed. Despite not having reviewed my resume, they offered me an interview over the phone. When I arrived for the interview, dressed in business attire, I was passed from the receptionist to the marketing manager, and then to HR. The receptionist seemed indifferent, the marketing manager was unimpressed, and the HR person let slip that they hadn't received candidates of the caliber they were expecting, mentioning that most qualified people were around 70 years old. The whole process lasted over two hours, during which I sat on a couch in the Country Club's sitting room. The marketing manager then gave me a Member Information Packet, implying I should consider becoming a member, which seemed absurd for an employee earning $30,000/year given the $60,000 membership fee plus $600/month. Following that, she went through a list of standard HR questions. Since my current job isn't at a country club, she didn't understand my examples of problem-solving and leadership from my current role. Interestingly, none of the interviewers are from or live in New Albany, unlike me, and I know the clientele very well.
- What is your current manager or supervisor's biggest flaw?
Server
The process started with a phone call and a brief over-the-phone interview, followed by two more interviews. If hired, a background check and drug test are required. The offer was declined due to a flat pay structure instead of tips, which was considered low for requiring fine dining experience.
- What do you enjoy most about being a server?
- Can you tell me about your biggest pet peeve when working?
Grounds Crew Member
I first had a quick chat with HR, and then I went through a short interview with the head of the grounds crew. The whole thing was pretty straightforward. They seem to really want to hire you if you show you're enthusiastic about the job.
- Can you tell me about your experience with lawn mowers and similar equipment?
