Senior Software Engineer
Applied online. I had a 30 min phone screen with HR first. Then I met with the Director of Engineering a week later for another 30 mins. Things were looking good. After that, I had a technical interview with 2 engineers the following week. They had me build a Python library with basic CRUD operations using OOP principles in CoderPad. I thought this would be easy given my background, but I guess not? I'm not sure what they were looking for, but it felt like I missed the mark. They could have been more direct. The interviewers themselves were nice though, really upbeat and attentive. I got rejected a few days later.
- Could you build a Python library for creating/updating models?
Clinical
I went through about 3 to 4 interview rounds for this position. It involved speaking with the hiring manager, the department manager, the department director, and then ultimately the COO. The whole process took about a month. After each interview, they let me know I was moving forward and usually set up the next one within a day or two. The interviewers asked some tough questions but also made me feel really comfortable and connected. Neuroflow did a fantastic job keeping me updated on how things were going. I could really sense their enthusiasm for the role and the field, which made me even more interested in the company.
- Can you describe your leadership approach and how you handle an underperforming employee?
- How do you manage an employee who isn't meeting expectations, and what's your leadership philosophy?
Strategy & Operations
The interview experience was pretty good, and it moved along pretty fast, about a month from the first call to the offer. I had an initial chat with HR, and then immediately talked to the hiring manager, who's also the COO & Co-Founder. We talked about whether my experiences and skills were a good fit, if my interests and career goals aligned with the role, and if my personality would fit with the company culture. I also had to submit some of my previous work and explain how I approach building business cases, managing projects, and so on. Everyone I met was really genuine and clearly passionate about NeuroFlow's mission and mental health. They really live their values. My only suggestion is to speed up the hiring process a bit because things can change fast in a month, especially with other offers on the table.
- Can you elaborate on your background and expertise?
- What attracts you to NeuroFlow and what are your career aspirations?
- Could you describe your personality and how you manage teams?
Product Manager
Despite reading negative feedback about their interview process, I decided to apply with an open mind. However, my experience mirrored the complaints of others. For a behavioral health company, their approach to candidates seemed out of touch with human behavior, showing a lack of decency and respect. In their strong focus on ensuring a candidate fits the role and culture, they overlooked the humanity of the candidates. I went through 6 interview rounds over 5 weeks and was asked to complete a project that took up most of my weekend. After completing all this, I didn't hear back. When I followed up, I was informed, "sorry we filled the position."
- If you could choose your last meal, what would it be?
