The interview process was a bit strange. It started with a 30-minute call with the hiring manager. Then, there was a technical challenge with 3 questions that I had to finish within a week. After they initially rejected me, they surprisingly called me back for a third stage, which was a technical presentation. During the presentation and Q&A, the team of 5 materials engineers seemed disengaged, busy with their own work, and didn't show much reaction. It felt like they were unsure about what they were looking for in a candidate, especially since they are physics-focused but hiring someone for computational simulations using commercial software. I'd think twice about this team.

HR called me with technical questions! I was asked about pictures with engineering concepts, and I explained them thoroughly, even though the HR person couldn't really tell if my explanations made sense. They were just looking for whether A was larger than B! I didn't pass this stage. I'm not sure if this hiring method is even cost-effective and how they assess a Ph.D. applicant by having HR spend time on technical questions! Very disappointed!

The interview process was good and really tested my mechanical engineering skills. It was a fast-paced startup, so expect some interview juggling like a no-show/reschedule for interview #2; they are super busy but for good reasons! Here’s how it went: First, a technical call with the recruiter, then a technical interview with a team member, followed by a week-long design challenge. I got an automated rejection email and no follow-up for feedback, so good luck to future candidates!
